B65-710 BOXWOOD MEASURING GAUGE. Four sided pyramid shape with a knob at the end, 4-1/2" long with the faces 1-1/2" wide at the top. There are five lines scribed around it, each with a French measurement. The round seal on the side is marked "Ponts et Chaussees", French for "bridges and roads" which historically refers to civil engineering, however, it also includes the word "Peche" which is French for "fishing", and the consignor's note suggests that it was used to measure the size of fishing nets. (One of the markings is "saumons", or "salmon.") Whatever it is, it's the only one we've ever seen, and in good clean condition with a few stains that don't affect the markings. Fine 100-200
