B65-495 SMOOTHING PLANE. Saxon No. 5. 8-1/2" cast iron body with decorative profile, rosewood and brass fill, knob and tote. The lever cap is iron, with two brass "ears" dovetailed to it that support a rod that fits under the frog, cast brass cap screw. "Saxon No. 5" is cast into the lever cap. Made in Germany and rarely encountered in the US. Beautifully made and very clean. Fine 300-600
