b61-349 BRITISH PLOW PLANE. James Silcock. The earliest patented metal plow; the version shown in Figure 89 of PTAMPIA I without the nicker. It doesn't have the typical metal plaque and there's no indication that it ever did, but unlike most it has "Silcock and Lowe's Patent" stamped in the frame. (The metal plaque generally says "Silcock's Patent Silcock & Lowe, Manufacturers"; this seems to indicate that Lowe was also a co-inventor.) Beech tote has wear and some chips, iron frame is oxidized but no significant rust or pitting. One original cutter marked W. Greaves. A few small paint speckles. A complete example of a rare and historically significant plane that would repay careful cleaning. From the collection of Cliff Sapienza. Good 600-1200
