B-717. PATTERNMAKER'S INTERCHANGEABLE SOLE PLANE. Phelps Manufacturing. Roy Phelps manufactured planes with interchangeable aluminum soles beginning in the 1920s. Most of his planes were based on a Bailey-type bench plane with frogs purchased from Stanley, but this is the less common non-adjustable type with a solid aluminum body and no separate frog, rosewood tote and knob.
