B-055. DOUBLE PROTRACTOR. Starrett No. 16. Near mint example of one of the rarest tools in the Starrett line, patented by LaRoy himself on 12/27/1904. At first glance it looks like a normal combination square, but the head can be rotated to form a bevel, and has a level vial and stop on each side. In addition to normal angles, it is also calibrated in pitches of 1/2" to the foot for convenience in laying out roofs. Starrett made a big deal out of this when it came out (it was the boss's invention), but it sold poorly and is hard to find, particularly in this type of condition. Near mint with only a few minor scuffs to the japanning, clearly marked with the patent date, mounted on a 12" Starrett No. 7 rule. From the collection of Cecil Holmes. Fine 200 - 400 **All absentee bids must be submitted by end of day Friday, Nov. 1st. Current high bids can be obtained by calling our office at (800) 248-8114.
