B-580 SEVENTEENTH CENTURY MOLDING PLANE. Robert Wooding. Absolutely immaculate 3/4" side bead from one of the earliest English planemakers, who worked in London from 1710 to 1728. 10-1/4" and 3-1/2" high, wide flat chamfers, relieved wedge. In addition to Wooding's mark, which looks like it was made yesterday rather than 300 years ago, it has user marks on the toe, very clean and neat. The heel has some dinging and there are a couple of small chips on the sole, but all in all a remarkable example. Originally discovered by Roy Arnold and in a private collection ever since; it doesn't get better.Fine 600-1200 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019. Live auction is at Camp Hill Radisson, 9:00am, March 30, 2019, Camp Hill, PA.
