B-541 COMBINATION SAW RABBET PLANE. Possibly Whitker Patent. This is the tool shown in Figure 159 of PTAMPIA I. Roger identifies it as a weatherstripping plane and speculates that it may be based on Daniel Whitker's 1866 patent for a "rabbet saw" that uses a saw blade rather than plane cutter to cut the edge of the rabbet. Unlike the PTAMPIA example, this one has the name of the Wash Co. of Chicago clearly cast into the side, and has traces of red japanning. A very rare plane.Good+ 250-500 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019. Live auction is at Camp Hill Radisson, 9:00am, March 30, 2019, Camp Hill, PA.
