B-102 PATENTED BIT BRACE. It closely resembles Bartholomew's 1862 patent which isn't rare (C rating in Pearson), but it has the patent date of 5/31/1836 stamped on the grip. That date was a Tuesday, but it was prior to the patent office fire of 1836 that destroyed the patent records, and not all of the pre-fire patents have been recovered. This may refer to one of the so-called "X patents" but we were unable to identify it. An intriguing mystery for brace lovers everywhere. The brace itself is nice and clean, with a 7" sweep and beech grip and rotating head and thumbscrew locking chuck.Fine 100-200 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019.
