B65-702 STORE DISPLAY AND BITS. Mephisto. The Mephisto brand of braces and bits were manufactured by W.A. Ives in the early 1900s, and were advertised as being exclusively union made. The display is steel, 12" by 19", featuring a devil using a Mephisto brace and racks for several sizes of bits. The paint is bright and fresh and the image is very striking. Interestingly, the price list printed on the back is for the Mephisto line of screwdrivers and has nothing to do with the tools displayed on the front. The lot also includes a advertising brochure with a much more avuncular looking devil, and a box of No. 10 Mephisto electrician's auger bits, the box is fully intact with five of the original six bits, all in mint condition and two still wrapped in their original waxed paper. Mephisto braces and bits were a particular interest of the late Jim Schoenky; he wrote a detailed article about the brand for the Fine Tool Journal and took particular pride in assembling this display. From the collection of Jim and Christa Schoenky. Fine 600-1200
