B65-656 BENCH PLANE. Bailey Vertical Post. Good clean example of the design manufactured by Leonard Bailey in Boston in the 1860s before his association with Stanley. No. 4 size, with a 2" Wm. Butcher with the same assembly number stamped on the cutter and cap iron and (faintly) body. Good clear patent stamp on the adjusting nut. Nearly identical to the plan in PTAMPIA I, Figure 48. The wood has been polished and is near fine, with a few small chips around the edge of the tote. Japanning 80%, metal has oxidation but no pitting. A very rare plane. Fine 1000-2000
