B65-652 COMBINATION PLANE. Fales Patent. Patented by Amos Fales of Denver and manufactured and sold by Otis Smith, who reportedly complained that it was the slowest moving tool he ever handled. The thing about the Fales patent, of course, is that you need a separate front and rear bottom and cutter for every profile, and a Fales is measured by how many accessory parts are included. This one includes, besides the main body (with rosewood tote) and sliding fence, two original wooden boxes of Fales parts, both with original labels on the front and one with the original sliding slid with a flyer stapled to it illustrating the parts in a complete set, and a green pasteboard box with original label containing the cutters. Each wooden box has two trays in it, and we won't swear that they include a complete set but it's got to be pretty close. The set also includes Smith's original parts list, tattered but intact and legible. All parts are clean and rust free with good japanning. If you're going to have a Fales in your collection, this is the one for you. From the collection of Steve Dice. Fine 600-1200
