B65-651 JACK PLANE. Holly Patent. Birdsill Holly received his patent in 1852 for the first commercially successful metallic plane. This 14" jack plane with dimpled sole is identical in design to the jointer shown in Figure 20 of PTAMPIA II, with a 2" Moulson Bros. cutter, the body narrows behind the tote as we've seen on other early Hollys. Iron is overall oxidized and dirty with some light pitting on the cutter and lever cap; tote and knob original and clean. From the collection of Harold Unruh. Good+ 200-400
