B65-618 DOUBLE CUTTER ROSEWOOD CROWN MOLDER. Casals y Vehils. Bevel, quirk bead and flute, 2-1/2" wide. 11-1/2" sole, dark Brazilian rosewood with tulipwood closed tote and apprentice hole. Marked on toe "Casals y Vehils, Fabricantes (Portuguese for "manufacturers"), Buenos Aires." Wider cutter marked by Peugeot Freres. French immigrants settled in Buenos Aires beginning in 1820 and established their own woodworking community; with their ready access to rosewood they produced some stunning planes.
