B65-544 BLOCK PLANE. Rodier Patent. Bench planes based on Louis Rodier's 1879 patent and manufactured by Laflin Manufacturing, with their distinctive serpentine grooves in the sole, are rare enough, but Laflin also manufactured block planes based on Rodier's patent that make hen's teeth look common. This is the plane shown in Figure 196 of PTAMPIA II, but with the cutter marking shown in Figure 192a. It actually bears little resemblance to the patent, it has no grooves in the sole and lacks the faucet-handle style depth adjustment, but it does have an ingenious second brass wheel under the cutter that sets the cutter angle. In very clean condition, noting a tight crack in the lever cap and a replaced knob. From the collection of David Jeffers. Good+ 200-400
