B65-542 IRON BENCH PLANE. Loughborough Patent. This is undoubtedly an example of William Loughborough's pioneering 1854 patent, with the cutter held between two opposing screws to set the angle. Unlike most, it is not visibly marked, but Dave's tag says the front bun was attached by a user, and the mark is probably cast into the base under the bun. The screw holding it on is tight, and we didn't want to scar it up with a screwdriver, so we'll leave it to you. It is otherwise identical to Figure 61 of PTAMPIA II, very clean with a well reglued split in the tote and unmarked cutter. From the collection of David Jeffers. Good+ 1500-3000
