B65-522 LOT OF TWO EARLY EUROPEAN IRON PLANES. Both with wrought iron bodies and soldered soles. One is 3-3/4" long, square heel and toe, decorative edge, 1-1/2" cutter that curves over at the top to form a pushing surface. The other is 3-1/4" and appears cruder in construction with closed in toe and wooden fill that is smaller than the plane body. Both have wooden wedges held by an iron rod peened at the ends. Part of Cliff Sapienza's collection of fifteenth and sixteenth century planes from the alpine area of Northern Italy and Switzerland. Overall surface rust, but in decent condition for their age, museum quality examples of the earliest days of European iron tools. Good 350-700
