B65-521 EARLY EUROPEAN IRON PLANE. Wrought iron body with 5-1/2" soldered sole, rounded heel, decorative edge, 1-1/2" cutter with wooden wedge. Unlike most, this one has a closed in toe and wooden fill with carved round knob that looks original, and a strike button at the heel made of a slotted screw that is original or at least old. The wedge is held by an iron rod peened at the ends. Part of Cliff Sapienza's collection of fifteenth and sixteenth century planes from the alpine area of Northern Italy and Switzerland. Overall surface rust, but in fine condition for its age, a museum quality example of the earliest days of European iron tools. Good+ 400-800
