B65-515 JACK PLANE. Steers Patent. Extremely rare example of William Steers' first patent, received in 1880 while he was still living in Sherburne, Quebec, and apparently manufactured there, before he moved to Vermont, hooked up with the Brattleboro Tool Co., and came up with the idea of inserting rosewood strips in the sole. See PTAMPIA II, pages 140-41 Cutter is marked "Steers & Long Patent" (faint but legible); Long was Steers' partner in Quebec and is only credited as an inventor on the Canadian patent. Wood very clean, metal has overall surface oxidation and grunge but no damage. Good 800-1600
