B65-478 TRANSIT. Wm. J. Young & Co. 5" needle that has fallen off its mount; we'll leave it to you to remove the glass and replace it, brass dial with some spots of oxidation, engraved "Wm J. Young & Co., Makers, Philadelphia." Serial number 4118 which dates it to 1866. Single vernier that reads in a cutout in the dial, 6" straight scope standards, 8" scope with hanging level. There's a round level in the base which still has fluid in it. In original box with instructions pasted in lid, includes plumb bob and sun shade. Brass has uniform oxidation and never polished. A good clean example (noting the needle issue) from the inventor of the transit and Philadelphia's premier instrument maker. Good+ 300-600
