B65-477 DRAINAGE LEVEL. W. & L.E. Gurley No. 387. Patented by the Gurleys in 1883 and designed as a simple, compact and rugged sighting level for use by farmers and landscapers to get rough estimates of the slope of land. The level is encased in a 7-1/2" anodized brass compartment that also includes the sight. In its original wooden case that also includes a ball and socket leveling stand, an adapter for a Jacobs staff, and what appears to be a partial plumb bob that may not be original to the set. The box has a label in the lid indicating that at one time it was serviced by Queen & Co. From the collection of Chuck Morgan. Fine 200-400
