B65-444 SIGHTING LEVEL. Queen & Co. Unmarked, but in a fitted original box with Queen & Co. in the lid. It looks like Harvey Linton's 1874 patent, which was listed in Queen catalogs; but the only other example we know of is marked with the patent date and and having been manufactured by Pittsburgh compass maker Wm. Stieren. It has a brass sighting tube with a mirror that allows the user to view the level, and an ivory handle that unscrews for storage. The sharkskin plush-lined box is intact with a good catch, but has some wear to the surface, particularly on the bottom. From the collection of Chuck Morgan. Fine 500-1000
