B65-248 SURVEYING INSTRUMENT. W & L.E. Gurley. A telescopic sight designed to be attached to the sighting vane of a compass, patented in 1878 by the Gurleys. 9" sight with good optics, 6" striding level with original vial. In absolutely mint condition in its original mahogany box with immaculate label. Looks like it just came off the shelf. We've seen a couple of these included with a compass but this is the only stand-alone example we're familiar with. A very rare Gurley instrument. From the collection of Chuck Morgan. Fine 800-1600
