B64-737. ABNEY LEVEL. W. & L.E. Gurley. Hand held surveying instrument used to take a rough estimate of ground slope in the field, originally invented by Sir William de Wiveleslie Abney in the 1870s and widely copied since then. This one has Gurley's name engraved on the side and is in near mint condition (noting some brass tarnish) in its original rosewood box with Gurley's label in the lid. From the collection of Chuck Morgan. Condition: Fine, Estimate: 100-200
