B63-242. BLOCK PLANE. Birdsill Holly Patent. Very rare example of Holly's early "shoebuckle" lever cap design that influenced the Stanley No. 110. See PTAMPIA I, page 39. Instead of a screw to hold the lever cap, it has the cast brass wedge as shown in Holly's 1852 patent. Light surface corrosion but no damage, original turned maple knob, Middletown Tool Co. cutter with rust and pitting. Cracks at both corners of the mouth where the thin part of the sole has been bent.
