B-369 ADJUSTABLE WRENCH. Taft Patent. George C. Taft of Worcester, MA, received 15 wrench patents between 1857 and 1872. Some he sold to Coes and some he manufactured himself. This may be an example of his 1/4/70 center nut patent, which was not produced commercially, although it doesn't have the enclosed jaw shown on the patent. It is marked very faintly "Taft's Patent" and "Pat Apd For." 12", good walnut handle, head dinged up and jaws slightly sprung. A rare wrench from one of the unsung geniuses of early wrench design.Good 100-200 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019. Live auction is at Camp Hill Radisson, 9:00am, March 30, 2019, Camp Hill, PA.
