B-352 PATTERNMAKER'S INTERCHANGEABLE SOLE PLANE. Siegley No. 6 IOB. A Siegley No. 6 jack plane that has been altered to accept six interchangeable soles. They were offered for sale by Hammacher Schlemmer (PTAMPIA I, page 107), but it isn't clear whether these were produced by Siegley itself or some enterprising entrepreneur. The one in the ad had five soles; this one has six, each with its proper cutter, but the sixth doesn't have the radius stamped on the end so it was probably added by the user. It has Siegley's unique cutter adjustment mechanism which is not in the one pictured in PTAMPIA. The sliding lid wood box has a label for a normal Siegley jack plane, faded and worn around the edges but clearly legible; the extra thickness of the rounded sole keeps you from closing the lid but it's perfect for storing the extra soles. One of the most unusual Siegley planes we've ever seen.Fine 500-1000 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019.
