B-246 SURVEYOR'S COMPASS. Benjamin K. Hagger. Mahogany body mounted on brass arms with paper card, 5-1/2" needle, fleur-de-lis at north, "Made by Benj. K. Hagger On the Drawbridge Boston" printed in the middle. The E, W and S letters appear to have been pasted on rather than included in the printing, it looks old. The cover held on by a simple brass collar, not sure the glass is original. Sighting vanes, plain socket. Hagger worked in Boston until relocating to Baltimore, the address, construction and lack of "and Son" all mark this compass as 1790s. In an old but not original box.Good+ 500-800 NOTE: Absentee bidding ends 5:00pm EST on Friday, March 29, 2019. Live auction is at Camp Hill Radisson, 9:00am, March 30, 2019, Camp Hill, PA.
